Jamirang Sofa 1 & 2 by Bora Kim

Really digging these two sofa/chairs by South Korean designer newcomer Bora Kim. Jamirang (mean falling into sleep in Korean) 1 & 2 are both one off hand made pieces but I hope these will see main stream production soon. They are playful, beautifully executed and Their overstuffed wood felt seats are just crying to be sat on (slept on).

Touch Lamp Vase by Roger Arquer for Bosa

London designer Roger Arquer designed these lamps for Bosa which are turned on and off by touching the flowers in the vase. A low level current (they swear its safe) flows through the water and up the conductive flowers where the touch of your hand is detected. As a daily use product this could get a little annoying – constantly having to refill the vase with water and buying new flowers when old ones die – but as an art piece its quite a beautiful idea.

I wish I had more info on this design, and am currently trying to research it, but just came across this house design in Vilnius, Lithuania at Paviliai Regional Park. The owners of this medieval cannon foundry asked the architects to preserve the honor of this historical structure. Their solution: to encase the ancient building in a larger glass box. The result is incredible.

Athletic Track by Subarquitectura

This athletic track by Spanish studio Subarquitectura shows a real understanding by the designers of why runners run – to have fun! The ‘alternative’ route of the track sweeps over the roof of the changing room creating an amphitheater-like seating area nestled between the two tracks.

Flagship NYC 5th Ave Hollister Store

Earlier this year the new flagship Hollister store on 5th Ave opened and I finally got a chance to check it out. Hollister continues to push the boundaries of retail store design with there massive facade of LCD screens showing live feed video of the California beach.

Aesop pop-up shop by Rodney Eggleston

Rodney Eggleston of March Studio created this fantastic example of a successful pop up shop for skin care brand Aesop in Paris. It is striking, inviting, and most important of all – cost effective. As with much of Eggleston’s work there is a playfulness through use of repetition of regular objects.

Box Sofa and Lounger by Loook Industries

Finish design studio Loook Industries has created these sound dampening sofas and loungers as part of their Box line. They were conceptualized when the founding pair of Loook designers were discussing noise problems with most lounges and bars and the difficulties of making a phone call or having a conversation. These renderings have been around for a while now, but it loooks (couldn’t resist) like they have finally made them. Currently there are four showrooms in Sweeden and Finland.

Loog began as Rafael Atijas’s senior year thesis and now thanks to Kickstarter may actually become a reality. The concept is a simplified guitar for children that they build themselves to give them greater ownership and appreciation of the product and also allows for easier learning. And because kids have short attention spans, when they get bored of the look of their guitar they can swap out the body for one of three currently available. If only the piano my mother made me learn to play in the 4th grade had been modular….

Ausgebrannt by Kaspar Hamacher

Belgiam designer Kaspar Hamacher created these stools from wooden logs by setting certain sections on fire to create the legs. The stools are appropriately called Ausbebrannt (German for ‘Burnt Out’).

Magical Sapor spice shakers by Arthur Xin

Clever ‘magic wand’ spice shaker design by Arthur Xin. Though only a concept I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one made (or something similar) solely because of its new take on the use of a traditional product. The only flaw I see in the design will be the consistent over salting of food – its just looks like too much fun.
